whatever happened to the stars in the windows?

You may remember these:

The hanging stellations at Hall of the Above in downtown Petaluma

Or you you may have just seen the labels in the windows and wondered what “Seventh Stellation of the Icosahedron” could possibly mean.

Well, sadly these installations had to come down by order of the fire marshall, because they are too large and were blocking the sprinklers. And while we love art, safety is our #1 priority, so the stars are now back in Daniel Castor’s studio.

There are plans in the mix for skeletal versions of the stars (that water could pass through), with one prototype now proudly hanging in one of the windows. We’ve left the labels in the windows up for now in hopes that they will once again make sense!

The shapes are part of The Geomancer Project, a preview of which can also be found here. In addition to the new stars in the windows, we also have hopes that someday in the future, we can have a geometry extravaganza at Hall of the Above, where people can climb into a camera obscura or disco-hedron, and experience the magic of geometry! ✨
