If you’re planning a wedding that blends historic charm with modern flair, look no further than Hall of the Above in downtown Petaluma. historic Architecture Meets Intimate Grandeur
Hall of the Above occupies an iconic early 20th-century bank building at 199 Petaluma Blvd N — a landmark that instantly lends character and gravitas to any event.
One of its standout features is the soaring vaulted ceilings (up to 30 feet high), which create a sense of grandeur without ever feeling cold or impersonal. These architectural touches make it especially magical for weddings: imagine soft uplighting on the banking hall walls, or a string quartet echoing in the space during your ceremony.
Flexible Layout & Guest Capacity
One of the strengths of Hall of the Above is its versatility. The venue accommodates up to 250 guests, so it's large enough for a big celebration yet still intimate when fully seated. For seated receptions, they comfortably host up to 156 guests.
The venue includes several flexible spaces:
Main Hall: 2,732 sq ft, where you can host your ceremony, reception, or both.
Mezzanine: An upstairs area ideal for a bridal suite, a cocktail bar, or DJ booth.
Lower Lobby: Great for a transitional cocktail hour between a ceremony and reception on the main level.
Downstairs Staging Kitchen and Auxiliary Rooms: Can be used for dressing rooms, staging, or storage.

Ideal Location & Accessibility
Situated in downtown Petaluma, Hall of the Above is easily accessible and centrally located, making it convenient for guests traveling from Sonoma County or the Bay Area. Parking is primarily on-street or in nearby lots — something to coordinate with your guests, but manageable given the downtown charm.

Amenities & Services
Hall of the Above offers several amenities that couples will appreciate:
Their team will share a preferred caterer list, though you’re welcome to bring in your own caterer (food trucks, however, are not allowed).
They provide tables and chairs: 18 rectangular dining tables, round cocktail tables, and up to 175 folding chairs.
There’s a small raised stage (8′×8′ or 8′×12′) that can be set up for a band, DJ, or ceremony. HOTA (Hall of the Above) staff handle the setup.
Accessibility is well considered: the venue is wheelchair accessible, has an elevator to reach the balcony, and four ADA restrooms throughout the building.
For decor, you’re allowed to use low-tack masking tape, florist’s wire, or fishing line on the walls — but no nails or penetrating fixtures. Several pre-existing hanging winches are available for suspending aerial features with HOTA staff available for setup.

Safety, Policies & Logistics
Planning an event here comes with thoughtful guidelines that help preserve the historic nature of the space.
You need to provide one-day event insurance, submitted 60 days ahead.
For events serving alcohol (especially if guests are paying or if it's a bar), you’ll need licensed caterers or bartenders, plus on-site security.
Music is welcome, but because of Petaluma noise ordinances, amplified music must be indoors, and on weekends, it must end by 11:00 PM (weekdays by 10:00 PM).
For cleanup, your caterer handles food cleanup, but you’re responsible for removing all trash and recyclables; HOTA staff help with breakdown.
